From October to May, the waters off Cape Point come alive with world-class yellowfin tuna. This full-day charter runs from Simon's Town to the legendary offshore grounds known as "The Canyon", where the continental shelf drops away and some of the most powerful game fish in the world come to feed.
Expect a long, exciting day of 8 to 9 hours. We leave early, run around Cape Point into the Atlantic and fish the shelf edge with trolling, popping and heavy tackle. When the tuna are on, the fights are hard and fast, so come ready to work.
Target species are yellowfin, bigeye and longfin tuna, with yellowtail closer in and marlin and dorado in season. Catches always depend on the weather and the fish, and the captain checks the conditions before every trip so you only head out on a good day.
The Stella Maria is a 28ft twin-hull catamaran with twin 200HP engines, built to get you to the grounds quickly and keep you stable once there. The charter is private for up to six guests, with an experienced skipper and crew, premium tackle, bait and full safety gear.
